Abstract
A clinical study for the effectiveness of lidamidine HCI, which is newly developed antidiarrhoeal agent, on the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhoea was performed.
48 patients were diagnosed as diarrhoea, of which 29cases being acutediarrhoea and 19 cases chronic diarrhoea.
Follow-up evaluation was done clinically, as well as checking the vital signs and laboratory values.
The followingg results were obtained;
1) Frequencies of the evacuations were reduced in 100 percent of acute diarrhoea patients which were administered lidamidine but not in placebo group. In chronic diarrhoea, 85 percent of lidamidine group and 20 percent of placebo group showed good effects respectively.
2) consistency of the evacuations were normalized in 90% of acute diarrhoea patients and 64.2% of chronic diarrhoea patients which were administered lidamidine but relatively sinall in placebo group.
3) There were no significant untoward reactions either subjective or objective to the administration of the drug, except one case of constipation.
In conculusion, lidamidine HCI appears- to be -safe and effective for the treatment of diarrhoea.
